Five ways to prevent lead poisoning in Ft. Lauderdale

Biohazard Five ways to prevent lead poisoning in Ft. Lauderdale SERVPRO SAYS Check for Lead in Older Ft. Lauderdale Homes

SERVPRO Tip: Check for Lead Poisoning in Your Home

Even in 2017, lead poisoning is still one of the most toxic dangers in our homes. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Lead poisoning can affect nearly every system in the body. Because lead poisoning often occurs with no obvious symptoms, it frequently goes unrecognized. How hasn't heard about the problems with the municipal water system in Flint, Michigan?

Did you know that there are simple testing kits you can find at most hardware stores in Ft. Lauderdale to detect lead in your home? A ten-minute blood test can also determine if your young child has a dangerous amount of lead already in his bloodstream. These two tests should be done, can give you peace of mind or indicate corrective measures are needed if your living area was constructed before 1978.
Dr. Geller states that lead poisoning is a leading cause of aggressive behavior and learning disabilities in young children. It is unfortunate how such a small amount of a lead-based paint chip or dirt contaminated with lead can also lead to anemia and developmental problems.

Dr. Geller offered the following 5 lead poisoning prevention:
1.No chewing on hard, painted surfaces, such as windowsills.
2.Remove chipped or peeling paint as soon as possible.
3.Request lead poison screening tests from your physician, even as just a precaution.
4.Keys may contain lead. Small children should never chew or teethe on them.
5.Run tap water through your plumbing for several minutes to help purge lead that may be present. If the water is for cooking, baby formulas, or general food preparation, run it even longer.
